Written By ESR News Blog Editor Thomas Ahearn

Employment Screening Resources® (ESR) – a leading global background check provider – will release the 14th annual “ESR Top Ten Background Check Trends” for 2021 that feature emerging and influential trends in the background screening industry. The list of the top background check trends will be made available during January of 2021 at www.esrcheck.com/Tools-Resources/ESR-Top-Ten-Background-Check-Trends/.

Since 2008, ESR has annually selected the top background check trends. Trends for 2020 included lawsuits involving the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), potential hiring bias in Artificial Intelligence (AI), increased screening for “gig economy” workers, and the growth of “Ban the Box” laws. Each trend for 2021 will be announced via the ESR News Blog and listed on the “ESR Top Ten Background Check Trends” web page.

ESR founder and chief executive officer (CEO) Attorney Lester Rosen helped to select the top background check trends. Rosen – author of “The Safe Hiring Manual” – was chairperson of the steering committee that founded the Professional Background Screening Association (PBSA), a non-profit trade group representing the background screening industry. In September of 2019, Rosen received the PBSA Lifetime Achievement Award.

Founded by Rosen in 1997, Employment Screening Resources® (ESR) is headquartered in the San Francisco, California, area, with a production facility in Sacramento, California. ESR is accredited by the PBSA, undergoes annual SOC 2® Type 2 audits, adheres to the Privacy Shield Framework, and was named the number one background screening firm in 2020 by HRO Today Magazine.
